In keeping with the YTL Hotels ethos, Tanjong Jara Resort has always aspired to embrace a proactive role in preserving the beauty of its natural environment, better protect the local wildlife and raise awareness for sustainable seafood choices.

Tanjong Jara Resort in an exclusive partnership with Lang Tengah Turtle Watch has launched a turtle hatchery by the Nelayan restaurant. The hatchery’s simple wooden trellis structure provides views of the nests, while keeping predators at bay.

Discover more about the magnificent sea turtles that grace our ocean waters, learn about the dangers they face and the conservation efforts made to protect their hatchlings from poachers and return them to their natural habitat in the sea.

This joint initiative will offer guests the opportunity to discover more about the lives of these majestic creatures, with informative talks and the chance to get involved with nest inspections by day (subject to availability), and, if fortunate, to witness the emergence of hatchlings by night. A nest adoption programme will also be available, where guests’ pledges will save a nest from poachers preventing them from being sold as food at the marketplace. Guests that are part of this programme will receive regular email updates with photographic progress reports and an invitation to return to the resort to witness the hatching of their nest.

Lang Tengah Turtle Watch, which strives to protect this endangered species by monitoring turtle landings and saving their eggs from poachers, is delighted to be working with Tanjong Jara Resort, as both recognise that tourism, if properly implemented, can play a large role in the conservation of these endangered sea turtles from supporting eco-friendly initiatives to spreading environmental awareness.
